Indiana car shipping benefits from the state's nickname, the Crossroads of America. I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 all converge on the I-465 beltway around Indianapolis, so carriers moving freight between the Midwest, the South and the East Coast pass through constantly. That makes auto transport from Indiana relatively easy to schedule. Sahara Auto Transport arranges pickups in Indianapolis and its suburbs, the Region near Chicago, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Bloomington, Lafayette and Evansville.
Two quirks set Indiana apart. First, the state straddles two time zones: most counties follow Eastern time, but the northwest corner near Chicago and the southwest counties around Evansville run on Central. When you ship a car to Indiana, double-check which zone your driver means when they call with an arrival window. Second, the Indiana Toll Road carries I-80 and I-90 across the northern tier and bills through E-ZPass, so take your own transponder out of the car before loading.
Indiana builds cars too, with major assembly plants near Lafayette, Princeton and Fort Wayne, and the highways that serve them carry heavy truck traffic toward Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. For private customers, busy southbound lanes usually mean more choices when a carrier is needed. Whether you are relocating for a job at an Indianapolis hospital system or sending a college car to Bloomington or West Lafayette, we match the pickup with a truck already headed your way.
Pickup and delivery
Where we ship in Indiana
Indianapolis
Downtown, Fountain Square and Broad Ripple have tighter streets, while addresses outside I-465 usually let the hauler pull close to the curb.
Carmel and Fishers
Hamilton County's fast-growing suburbs are full of roundabouts and HOA neighborhoods, so pickups are often arranged at a nearby shopping center lot.
Fort Wayne
Northeast Indiana's largest city sits on I-69 near the Ohio line, with easy access for carriers running between Detroit, Indianapolis and Chicago.
Evansville
On the Ohio River in the southwest corner, Evansville runs on Central time and connects to I-69 and the Twin Bridges into Henderson, Kentucky.
South Bend
Notre Dame move-ins and football weekends drive local demand, and the Indiana Toll Road just north of town gives carriers a direct line to Chicago and Toledo.
Northwest Indiana (Hammond, Gary, Merrillville)
The Region shares Chicago's carrier traffic, sits on Central time and gets the heaviest lake-effect snow in the state.

Indiana Seasons: Lake-Effect Snow, Race Month and Move-In Weekends
Lake-effect snow is concentrated in the counties closest to Lake Michigan, including Lake, Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph, where squalls can drop several inches in a few hours while Indianapolis stays dry. Central and southern Indiana deal more with ice storms than heavy snow. From December through February, we build an extra day of cushion into Region and South Bend pickups and keep you posted if conditions change.
May is race month in Indianapolis, and the days around the Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day weekend bring heavy traffic near the Speedway on the west side. August brings university move-ins at Purdue, Indiana University, Ball State and Notre Dame, and fall football Saturdays crowd Bloomington, West Lafayette and South Bend. Snowbird departures for Florida pick up in October and November.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in Indiana
- Confirm the time zone with your driver. Evansville and the Region run on Central time, while Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and South Bend use Eastern.
- Remove or shield your E-ZPass before loading so the Indiana Toll Road does not bill your account for the trailer's trip.
- Indiana registrations are handled by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Most states expect registration within about 30 days of residency, so check the Indiana BMV for its current deadline.
- HOAs in Carmel, Fishers and Westfield sometimes restrict large trucks on residential streets; a nearby church or retail lot often works better.
- Farm addresses in rural counties can have soft shoulders after spring rain, so suggest a paved meeting point if your driveway is long or unpaved.
