Nevada car shipping is really two markets with a lot of desert in between. Las Vegas and Henderson in the south connect to Southern California and Utah on I-15, while Reno, Sparks and Carson City in the north tie into Northern California and Salt Lake City on I-80. Sahara Auto Transport arranges door-to-door auto transport for both, and we tailor the plan to your side of the state, because the routes, the weather and the timing are completely different.
Las Vegas keeps carriers busy all year. People relocate here from California, casino and hospitality workers come and go, and Nellis Air Force Base adds military moves. Much of the valley is master-planned: Summerlin, Green Valley, Inspirada and Skye Canyon have HOA rules and gated entries that may keep a full car carrier out. In those cases we arrange a meet point at a nearby shopping center so the handoff stays quick and easy. Car shipping in Las Vegas also runs heavy around big convention weeks.
Summer heat is the main thing to plan for in southern Nevada. Las Vegas regularly tops 110 degrees in July, which is hard on batteries, tires and anyone waiting outside for a truck, so early morning pickups work best. Up north the challenge flips to winter. I-80 over Donner Summit between Reno and Sacramento can require chains or close during a storm, so Reno to California shipments sometimes wait out the weather for a day.
Pickup and delivery
Where we ship in Nevada
Las Vegas
Downtown, the older neighborhoods west of the Strip and newer communities like Summerlin and Skye Canyon all see steady demand, with gated HOA entries the main access hurdle.
Henderson
Green Valley, Anthem and Inspirada are master-planned with HOA rules, and quick access to I-215 and I-11 makes meet points easy to set up.
North Las Vegas
Close to Nellis Air Force Base and I-15, North Las Vegas handles many military moves and deliveries to new-construction neighborhoods.
Reno
The Biggest Little City sits on I-80 near the California line, and its growing tech and logistics workforce keeps Northern Nevada busy.
Sparks
Next to Reno along I-80, Sparks and the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center to the east bring warehouse and manufacturing relocations.
Carson City and Lake Tahoe
The capital and the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe are reached via I-580 and US-50, and the mountain roads can need extra winter planning.

Desert heat, Sierra snow and the winter visitor season
From June through September, southern Nevada heat is the dominant factor. Afternoon temperatures in Las Vegas and Henderson often pass 105 degrees, and the inside of a parked car gets far hotter. Carriers prefer early pickups, and you should remove electronics, aerosol cans and anything that can melt. The July and August monsoon can also bring sudden flash floods to low-lying Las Vegas streets.
Winter is mild in Las Vegas and is actually a busy season, with snowbirds from the Midwest and Mountain West arriving between November and March. Northern Nevada is a different story: Reno sees real snow, and chain controls on I-80 over Donner Summit and US-50 near Tahoe can delay California-bound loads.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in Nevada
- Register with the Nevada DMV after you move. Vehicles based in Clark and Washoe counties generally need an emissions test before registration, and most states expect registration within about 30 days of residency, so check the Nevada DMV for current rules.
- If you live in a gated HOA community, ask the guard or HOA about large truck access ahead of time, or plan a meet point at a nearby shopping center.
- In summer, leave a sunshade in the windshield and take electronics, sunglasses and aerosol cans out of the car before pickup.
- Avoid scheduling pickups near the Strip during major conventions like CES in January, when traffic clogs I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard.
- Shipping from Reno to Sacramento or the Bay Area in winter? Build in a day of flexibility for chain controls on I-80.
