South Carolina car shipping covers a wide range of places, from coastal resort towns to fast-growing Upstate suburbs. I-95 crosses the eastern part of the state, I-26 connects Charleston with Columbia and the mountains, and I-85 runs through Greenville and Spartanburg. Auto transport in South Carolina is usually easy to schedule along these routes, and Charleston, Columbia and Greenville are common stops for carriers working the East Coast between Atlanta, Charlotte and Florida.
Many South Carolina moves are tied to retirement and relocation. Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and Bluffton attract retirees and second home owners, and the Upstate has grown with manufacturing jobs, including the BMW plant near Spartanburg. Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, Joint Base Charleston and Parris Island bring military moves, with graduation and PCS dates driving spikes near Columbia and Beaufort. Sahara Auto Transport works with carriers who know the state's coastal and inland routes, including the slow two-lane stretches toward the beaches.
Access varies by area. Charleston's historic peninsula has narrow streets and tight parking. Gated communities on Hilton Head, Kiawah and Daniel Island often require gate passes or restrict large trucks. Rural areas in the Pee Dee and along the Savannah River may have unpaved or sandy roads. We arrange meeting points ahead of time when needed. And because Sahara is based in Hollywood, Florida, the South Carolina to Florida lane is one we handle often.
Pickup and delivery
Where we ship in South Carolina
Charleston
The historic peninsula has narrow streets and limited space, so pickups often happen in Mount Pleasant, West Ashley or North Charleston near I-26.
Columbia
The capital sits where I-20, I-26 and I-77 meet, making it one of the easiest pickups in the state.
Greenville and Spartanburg
The Upstate is growing fast, with easy access from I-85 and I-385 and steady relocation demand.
Myrtle Beach
Summer tourist traffic on US-17 and US-501 can slow pickups, so weekday appointments tend to be smoother.
Hilton Head and Bluffton
Gated communities like Sea Pines often need gate passes for commercial vehicles, so carriers may meet outside the gates.
Rock Hill
Part of the Charlotte metro, Rock Hill and Fort Mill are easy to reach from I-77.

Hurricane season, beach traffic and snowbird months
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and the South Carolina coast is often in the path. During evacuations, I-26 can be reversed to carry traffic inland, and carriers avoid the coast until it is safe. Shipments to or from Charleston, Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head in late summer and fall should allow a few extra days.
Summer is peak beach season, with heavy traffic in Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. Snowbirds ship cars to Florida from October to December and back from March to May. Winters are mild, but the Upstate can see occasional ice storms that slow I-85 and I-26.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in South Carolina
- If you live in a gated community on Hilton Head, Kiawah or Daniel Island, arrange a gate pass for the carrier or plan to meet outside the gate.
- In downtown Charleston, plan to meet the driver at a nearby lot. Narrow streets and tight parking make loading difficult.
- New residents should title and register through the SCDMV. Most states expect registration within about 30 days of residency, and South Carolina's window is short, so check SCDMV for the exact rules.
- During hurricane season, keep your phone handy so we can reach you quickly if a storm shifts the schedule.
- Myrtle Beach pickups in summer are easier on weekdays, when traffic on US-17 and US-501 is lighter.
