Colorado car shipping is really two jobs. Along the Front Range, Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and Boulder sit close to Interstate 25 and are easy for carriers to reach year-round. West of Denver, I-70 climbs into the Rockies through the Eisenhower and Johnson tunnels at about 11,000 feet, then drops toward Vail, Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. If you want to ship a car to Colorado's mountain towns or out of them, the season and the pass conditions matter just as much as the miles.
Denver is the anchor. It is the largest city and the main stop for carriers crossing the country on I-70 and I-76, with frequent loads to and from Texas, Arizona, California and the Midwest. Colorado Springs adds steady military demand from Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases and the Air Force Academy. At Sahara Auto Transport we see many relocations from California and Texas into the Denver suburbs, along with college moves to Boulder and Fort Collins each August.
Mountain deliveries take more planning. Trucks hauling cars must follow Colorado's commercial chain law on I-70 during the snowy months, and many resort towns have narrow streets, steep driveways and limited parking. In Breckenridge, Aspen or Steamboat Springs, we usually set a meeting point at a large, plowed lot. Hail is another Colorado reality, especially in late spring and summer along the Front Range, which is why Sahara often suggests enclosed transport for new or high-value vehicles during those months.
Pickup and delivery
Where we ship in Colorado
Denver
Older neighborhoods like Capitol Hill and Highland have tight streets and permit parking, while suburbs such as Aurora, Lakewood and Highlands Ranch are easier for full-size carriers.
Colorado Springs
Military relocations to Fort Carson and the Space Force bases keep demand steady, and I-25 gives carriers direct access.
Fort Collins
Home to Colorado State University about an hour north of Denver on I-25, with a burst of student moves in late August.
Boulder
University of Colorado traffic and strict local parking rules make curbside meeting points common near campus.
Grand Junction
The Western Slope's hub on I-70 near Utah, easy to reach from the west even when mountain passes slow traffic out of Denver.
Summit County and Vail
Ski towns between roughly 8,000 and 9,600 feet, where winter deliveries depend on I-70 conditions and a large lot for loading.

Snow, hail and ski season
Snow can fall in the high country from October into May. Colorado's chain law for commercial vehicles applies on I-70 between Dotsero and Morrison from September 1 to May 31, and when it is in force, haulers must chain up or wait. Storms can also close Vail Pass or the tunnels for hours. Mountain deliveries in winter should allow an extra day, and Front Range shipments can slip after a spring upslope storm buries Denver in heavy, wet snow.
Hail season runs roughly May through August, and the Front Range is one of the most hail-prone areas in the country. Open carriers cannot shelter cars from a sudden storm, so owners of new or high-value vehicles often choose enclosed transport during those months. Ski season, from about Thanksgiving to April, brings heavy weekend traffic on I-70, and carriers try to avoid westbound Saturday mornings and eastbound Sunday afternoons.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in Colorado
- Colorado gives new residents about 90 days to register, longer than many states; check the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles for current rules.
- Vehicles registered in the Denver metro and parts of the northern Front Range may need an emissions test through the Air Care Colorado program.
- E-470 and the Northwest Parkway bill tolls by ExpressToll transponder or license plate, so remove your transponder before the car rides on a truck.
- For mountain addresses, plan a meeting point at a plowed lot near I-70 or the nearest main highway.
- Cold and altitude are hard on weak batteries, so replace a marginal one before a winter pickup.
