Massachusetts to Florida car shipping is one of the longest snowbird runs on the East Coast, roughly 1,150 to 1,500 miles depending on where you start and finish. When you ship a car from Massachusetts to Florida, the carrier works through New England traffic, skirts the New York City area and covers most of I-95 before reaching the Sunshine State. Boston to Florida auto transport typically takes 4 to 6 days after pickup, and we handle door-to-door scheduling from Greater Boston, the North and South Shores, Cape Cod, Worcester and the Pioneer Valley.
Bay Staters have favorite Florida destinations on both coasts. Naples, Fort Myers and Sarasota draw many retirees to the Gulf side, while Palm Beach, Jupiter, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale are popular on the Atlantic side, and plenty of families relocate to Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville for work. Because those cities sit hundreds of miles apart, it pays to be specific about your delivery address when you request a quote. A Naples drop can add the better part of a day compared with Jacksonville.
Nor'easters are the big winter variable here. A coastal storm can dump heavy snow on Boston, Worcester and the Berkshires in a day, close side streets and back up the Mass Pike, while the South Shore and Cape Cod can see flooding and high winds. Many Massachusetts snowbirds book pickup in October or November to stay ahead of that weather. Sahara Auto Transport keeps a close eye on forecasts during those months, and if a storm makes loading unsafe we reschedule and keep you updated on the new window.

From New England to Florida
Most Massachusetts loads leave on the Mass Pike (I-90) or I-495 and cross Connecticut on I-84 or I-95. Drivers usually avoid Manhattan by taking I-287 over the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge or I-84 to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, then picking up the New Jersey Turnpike or heading inland toward I-81. Southbound, I-95 continues through Delaware, Maryland and the Washington, D.C., area into Virginia.
South of Richmond, I-95 runs through Fayetteville, Florence and Savannah before entering Florida near Jacksonville. Atlantic coast deliveries stay on I-95 toward Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, while Gulf Coast cars cut across on I-10 to I-75 near Lake City or on I-4 from Daytona Beach to Tampa, then head south to Sarasota, Fort Myers and Naples. Some carriers loading in western Massachusetts prefer the inland I-81 route through the Shenandoah Valley to skip the Northeast Corridor entirely.

Massachusetts snowbird timing
The fall rush out of Massachusetts usually runs from early October to mid-December, with the busiest weeks often falling after foliage season and before the first real snow. Because this is a long run, carriers try to load full trailers out of Greater Boston, so offering a flexible pickup window of a few days often gets you a spot sooner. The spring return north typically runs from late March into May.
Winter pickups are possible, but nor'easters and snow emergency parking bans in Boston and other cities can complicate them. During a declared snow emergency, cars may need to come off main arteries, and carriers avoid tight neighborhood streets. On the Florida end, late-summer shipments should account for hurricane season, which runs from June through November, especially for deliveries to Southwest Florida and the Palm Beach area.
Before you book
Tips for this route
- Brookline, Somerville, Cambridge and much of Boston have narrow, permit-parking streets; plan to meet the driver on a wider road or in a supermarket lot nearby.
- Carriers do not take the ferry to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard, so island cars need to come over to the mainland, typically near Woods Hole or Hyannis, before pickup.
- Tell your insurer the car will be garaged in Florida for the season, and if you are moving permanently, line up a Florida policy, since Florida requires proof of Florida insurance to register.
- If a snow emergency is declared in your city around pickup day, call us early; we may shift the meeting point or the date so your car is not stuck behind a plow bank.
- Because this is a 4 to 6 day trip, leave the driver a spare key and note any quirks, such as a sensitive alarm or a battery that drains quickly.
